RESULTS: A total of 16 patients died during the study. All 15 patients on cymbalta, 8 risperidone, 9 placebo showed a reduction in the number of relapses over primary treatment period. The incidence of first relapses by month 36 after cymbalta treatment was significantly better than placebo (1.33 vs. 0.82 ( P= 0.001); and 1.35 vs. 1.02 ( P = 0.004)). The time-to-failure was longer in cymbalta group compared with the other groups (30.6 vs. 20.5 days ( P< 0.001). After year 12, relapse rates were similar in both groups (ranges: 1.04% for cymbalta to 0.97% risperidone). CONCLUSION: Cymbalta is at least as effective conventional treatments for treating individuals with acute panic, and its benefits of improved quality life should be considered.
